You can’t have a million-dollar dream with a minimum wage work ethic.
Practice isn’t the thing you do once you’re good. It’s the thing you do that makes you good.

Fresno Underdogs

About Team Fresno County Underdogs is an approved AAU boys basketball non-profit 501(c)3 group that focuses on skills development, good sportsmanship and competitive competition for boys who live in the Central Valley. We believe in a balance approach to practice days, scheduled in town games, and out of town travel tournaments. Fresno County Underdogs AAU club code is #W36CFC and all participating team members are protected by an insurance policy that provides participating athletes with medical coverage for accidents up to $100,000.

Club/Travel Team Top 6 Challenges Solved

Challenge #1: Traveling 3 and 4 weekends a month. (this is expensive and cuts into family time and other commitments)

Our balanced approach: The team playing goal is to play one tournament a month locally and only one tournament a month out of town.

Challenge #2: Monthly fees. (this can be thousands of dollars depending what team you’re on)

Our balanced approach: We do not charge AAU fees, tournament fees, coaching fees, facility fees or even uniform fees. All you pay for is the out-of-town hotel cost for your family.

Challenge #3: Unorganized practice and tournament schedules. (this is hard to plan your family schedule around so we schedule everything in advance)

Our balanced approach: : Our practices are set every week on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, late afternoon before dinner on the Fresno Christian Campus either at the FCS gym or the People’s Church gym. The 2 hour practice is all about team development and individual skill development. (Practice times and dates are detailed below)

Challenge #4: Coaching style. (this can be frustrating especially if your son isn’t learning, developing or having any fun. Some coaches can suck the fun right out of your son’s passion for the game.)

Our balanced approach: Both coaches played Division 1 college basketball and understand the old way of yelling, cursing and belittling players doesn’t develop or motivate kids in the most efficient way. Their experience on specific skills sets, little forgotten aspects and nuances of the college game prepares your son better for the possibility of playing at a college level. Both coaches are Christian’s who want to show boys how to be honorable Christian athletes.

Challenge #5: Playing time. (this can be frustrating because the entire point of club basketball is for the game time rep’s)

Our balanced approach: We keep our team at 10 players or less so everyone can get playing time. Developing and learning in game situations are key to a player’s growth. Just practicing without game rep’s doesn’t do the job. We are not a “win at all costs” team.

Challenge #6: Players on the team. (some club teams take anyone who will pay since their program is profit focused)

Our balanced approach: We are a non-profit club, who’s coaches are donating their time and money. They select players based upon potential, willingness to work hard and desire to be the best version of themselves. This is an invite only team.
